Affordable Alternatives: VALENTINO Rolling Rockstud Guitar Strap Leather Shoulder Bag

If there was ever to be a bag designed specifically for me and my style, it would be the Valentino Rolling Rockstud Guitar Strap Leather Shoulder Bag. The cross body/shoulder bag is my second favourite style of bag (behind backpacks) and I love the simple studded detailing but it’s the guitar strap that makes it so ‘me’, combining my love for music, guitars and fashion perfectly. However, this one comes at a breath-taking £2882.78, rendering it way too pricey for the average human so I found two good, one great and one ‘it’s okay’ affordable alternatives:

  1. The ROSIE Floral Study Crossbody Bag from Topshop features embroidered flowers and spiked studs, with gold details. The price of this bag is £25 and is more girly than the Valentino but its cute nonetheless.
  2. From Dorothy Perkins, which is one of my favourite shops, the Black Panelled Cross Body Bag is currently £20 (down from £25). This bag is panelled but plain and still has an edge to it. Despite it not being too similar to the guitar strap bag, it is the same style and shape, and it’s on sale so what other incentive is needed to buy it?
  3. The Grey Table Embellished Cross Body Bag for £35 from Miss Selfridge is the least like the Valentino shoulder bag except for the shape of it but it was pretty difficult to find bags that were good enough and I think its a very nice bag.
  4. The final bag, the Taos Black Studded Purse from Lulus for $39, is clearly a copy of the Valentino bag with the same studded decoration. However, this one doesn’t have the guitar strap but is made up for in being made from vegan leather.

Bathing Suits and Beach Get-Ups

It’s June! Therefore, it’s nearly time for trips to the beach or the pool (or it is time, depending on the weather where you live) so I trawled through some of my fave and most trustworthy shops to bring you this list of my top bathing suits and bikini picks. I know it seems like it but I swear I don’t have some floral obsession like this list seems to make out…

  1. This cute Gingham Check Bikini Set from Topshop is £32 and is right on trend this season with the gingham while also being a flattering style. This one is probably one of my top, top picks as this is something I would definitely wear.
  2. The Wolf & Whistle Fuller Bust Eyelet Bikini, also from Topshop, is £39. It features eyelets and lacing on both the top and the bottoms, possibly leading to some interesting tan lines but they’d be worth it for this bikini.
  3. Again from Topshop (not sorry), this Aztec Floral Swimsuit for £32 has a pretty floral aztec print and a cross back strap.
  4. The Floozie Garden Floral Balconette Bikini from Asos comes at a total price of £50. Designed by Frost French, it has a vivid floral print and features high-waisted bikini bottoms with a lace-up back.
  5. From River Island, the Black Floral Embroidered Bikini, comes altogether for £40. The bikini top has a high neck, strappy detailing and floral embroidery and the bikini bottoms have the same embroidered decoration and as well as two straps.
  6. The Blue Floral Scalloped String Bikini for £30, also from River Island is a two piece with scalloped edges. The top has a key-hole and string tie neck and the bottoms have tied sides with metal clasps.
  7. Following the previous bikini, the Blue Scallop Detail Swimsuit for £32 has the same scallop detail and is the same pale blue but doesn’t have the floral pattern of the bikini. The swimsuit also features cut out sides and has a halterneck and high leg style.
  8. From Motel Rocks, the Tessa Off The Shoulder Swimsuit in Rosa Print is £45. It is an off the shoulder (it’s in the name) piece with tie straps in a pink floral print and has a super high leg.
  9. Finally, from Nasty Gal, the See You Tonight Sheer Swimsuit for £28 features sheer inserts with a balconette halterneck style.

BONUS: Who doesn’t need a really really really cool pool float? While on Nasty Gal I found a donut, a margarita, a peace sign and the usual swan float and couldn’t resist sharing.

Express Equality

One of the things I love most about fashion is being able to express yourself through your style and as a proud feminist, I am very pleased to see the rise in slogan-ed t-shirts (and other clothing) showing support for equality. Here are six tops (all at a good price) with empowering motifs:

  1. The Ivory Femme Motif T-Shirt from Dorothy Perkins (£12) is a plain white tee with ‘FEMINIST FOR LIFE’ written across it. It’s simple and blunt which is all it really needs to be.
  2. From Topshop, the Females of the Future Tee (£15) is a white t-shirt with ‘FEMALES OF THE FUTURE’ printed across it in black. This one is probably my favourite because I really love the slogan.
  3. The Feminist T-Shirt by Tea & Cake (£18) is also from Topshop. It is even simpler than the first with just the word ‘FEMINIST’ on it but is a longline fit.
  4. A change of look comes with the Let’s Hear It for Girls Graphic Tee from Nasty Gal (£15) with its nude/neutral colouring. The message on this top is my favourite, saying ‘GIRLS NEED TO SUPPORT GIRLS’, something we all should do.
  5. I came across the Rebellious One Girl Power Keyhole Tee ($16.97) on Nordstrom Rack. A stark contrast to the others, this t-shirt is black with white lettering reading ‘GIRL POWER’ and has a large keyhole under the neckline.
  6. The final top, the Private Party Girl Power Tee, comes from Urban Outfitters ($52.00 +20% off). Again a white tee, and with the most subtle slogan, this one has ‘GRL PWR’ printed on the left side.

Affordable Alternatives: Saint Laurent Asymmetrical Denim Miniskirt

The Saint Laurent Asymmetrical Denim Miniskirt comes at a steep price of £773.66. I normally can find some decent alternatives but this time I struggled a bit more because I actually really love the original. Here are the ones I deemed ‘I guess they’re acceptable’:

  1. The Blue Fray Hem Acid Washed Mini Skirt from New Look is the cheapest on this list at £19.99. It is a similar style but is an acid washed look instead of a vintage blue.
  2. The next skirt is the BDG 5-Pocket Notched Denim Mini Skirt from Urban Outfitters. It’s tied as the most expensive but is still a reasonable price at £36 and is the one I think is the best and most similar to the Saint Laurent skirt.
  3. The Bleach Wash Authentic Denim Skirt is £28 from Miss Selfridge. This skirt has more distressing than the others but it’s not the worst alternative that you could have.
  4. The last one is the MOTO Denim Floral Skirt from Topshop, also at the price of £36. It’s of a similar style and shape of the others but is slightly darker and has floral embroidery.

The Bomb(er) Diggity Jacket

Bomber jackets are a great style jacket to wear throughout spring and summer. They are so many looks to create with these jackets as they come in a variety of colours, patterns and fabrics. Here is a list of the ones that have stood out to me:
  1. The simple Raglan Bomber Jacket from Forever 21 for £20 is suitable for almost any occasion.
  2. The Contemporary Bird Print Jacket for £23 also from Forever 21 has a cute bird pattern on a black silk fabric.
  3. The Jewel’s That Girl Tartan Bomber Jacket from Nasty Gal is £25 and looks totally badass as well as stylish.
  4. The Atisa Bomber Jacket from Brandy Melville for $34 is a plain khaki colour and has a snap fastening.
  5. The Freya Basic Bomber Jacket (which comes in 5 colours) is from Boohoo and is the cheapest of this selection at the price of £10.
  6. The Zip-Up Bomber Jacket from Charlotte Russe is pale blue and is $36.99.
  7. The Merona Women’s Printed Bomber Jacket from Target is green with a blue and white floral pattern, costing $29.99.
  8. The Bagatelle Women’s Rose Gold Bomber Jacket, also from Target, is the most expensive in this list at $79.99. It’s a very bold look but would make any average outfit Instagram worthy.

Mini Book Haul

books edited.JPG

I’ve known of Nasty Gal for a while now but I had no clue about the story behind how it came about until one day I (somehow) stumbled upon the book #GIRLBOSS online. I was super surprised to see that it was from the founder of Nasty Gal however I forgot all about the book up til now when the Netflix show Girlboss came out and I realised that it was based on the book, showing the journey of how Sophia Amoruso started Nasty Gal. Personally, I enjoyed the show even though there’s some bad reviews out there (I’m not one to really care what a review says). After watching it, though, I decided to buy the book. At the same time, I got the book on the right, ‘The Little Dictionary Of Fashion’, filled with information about clothes, such as different fabrics and construction methods. #GIRLBOSS serves as more of an inspirational batch of tips for someone to become a ‘girl boss’.

Let me know what if you’ve read the book or watched the show. If you have, what are your opinions?

Affordable Alternatives: Jimmy Choo Havana Boots

Today on Affordable Alternatives, I bring you the Jimmy Choo Havana Floral Boot for £1,235.91 ($1,495) on Nordstrom. Combat boots are my biggest weakness so I was bound to pick these at some point. Here are some cheaper options:

  1. Steve Madden’s TRUTHFUL Booties for $99.95 are the least similar as they are a slightly different shape with a thinner sole but they do have a rose applique which is in line with the Jimmy Choo boots with the floral embellishments.
  2. The Gia-Mia Rock Star Studded Combat Boots from Target come at a price of £36.93 or $44.99 are the same style of boots and are the second cheapest. However, they are edgier with (totally punk) studs instead of the delicate flower decorations that the Havana boots have.
  3. These patent French Connection Vanja Lace-Up Boots are a steal at £34.37, reduced from £114.58. They are a simple boot with no embellishment but are a chic alternative to the expensive pair.
  4. The final option are from Hot Topic. The Black Lace-Up Thick Sole Combat Boots are  $41.93 for TODAY ONLY and will then be $59.90. They have a similar thick sole (it is in the name). The top of the boot are a slightly different shape from the Jimmy Choo ones and although some people will have their reservations about shopping at Hot Topic, who can really resist such a good pair of boots?
